Know what I always found fascinating/awesome? The fact that the SNES, N64 and GameCube had the same standard composite cables. It's one of those cool little details that I know was probably argued about tremendously in a Nintendo boardroom when the cable was finally changed on the Wii :).
This idea makes a lot more sense when you think that this is targeted at the Japanese, not westerners. Putting this in the corner of a 4 Tatami room so you dont bother your family members, and get extra privacy to boot, probably makes a lot of sense to some Japanese.
