I’m going to buy this and drive an hour up to my parents house and use their landline to make the long-distance phone call to Redmond Washington. They’re going to be pissed just like they were 25 years ago.

No, no, no, no, no.

Oh, no. No, no, no.

Don’t even talk to me about how long I spent thinking about posting that.

I think YouTube Red has that feature, but, y’know ,$$$.

To be fair, what would stop someone from pushing into YOUR bubble and then kicking YOU even if you were just sitting there doing nothing? How would the game know the diff between them entering your space and you entering their space?

I absolutely believe in the old “Can’t change the wind, but can adjust the sails” But you’re saying people shouldn’t even pay attention to the wind and just give up sailing period if some jamoke makes a point of ruining sailing for you, based on a key criteria you have no control over.

Ignoring the trolls is exactly what this feature is for. I have to say, though, I find your nonchalant attitude about online sexual harassment (and what it says about a larger cultural issue of disrespecting women in gamer culture) really depressing.

I agree. Just like in the real world, actions should have consequences. If he were to try that in real life, he’d get punished (hopefully a knee to the crotch). How about a reaction power so that a nonconsensual invasion of space grants the victim a one-use power to deal incredible damage to the other character?

I play games, I don’t identify as a ‘gamer’ because so many of you are shitass losers.

That’s fine. Why should a player have to do that, though? What if a player gets pissed off and leaves, never to come back? Maybe a game developer doesn’t want that to happen, so he fixes the problem.

i totally appreciate that, but i could not disagree more. psychological and emotional wounds dont heal like physical ones, and not all assault requires contact. sensitivity, and therefore oversensitivity, by extension, are incredibly subjective things - you and i might share a fear or we may not, but it doesnt make

ORRRR.... we can just have this well made system to be able to easily avoid all that in the first place.

It’s like you’re imaging a thousand scenarios not described and ignoring one that actually DID happen. And as much as you find discomfort in being labeled a rape apologist, this kind of speculation about scenarios that didn’t happen and necessitating a stance against moral panic is exactly what rape apologists do in

exactly! if only this existed in real life.................

Yeah lets minimize what happened to make it seem like the irrational woman is just overreacting to totally harmless fun and jokes. Kinda like how we do in real life.

Maybe you should focus on the myriad male gamers that can’t help but sexually harass women apropos of discovering the person on the other side is a woman instead of trying to hold up this false narrative that other people are the problem.

I know someone that actually believes that rape isn’t really that bad and the victims need to get over it and stop blowing it out of proportion because everyone has to deal with bad things.

Well, she probably doesn’t get groped outside. Popping into a VR game and immediately having someone get in your face and start “groping” would be uncomfortable for anyone. Perhaps not “scary as hell” but it would be annoying as fuck and you would want the power to force them to fuck off.
