Yup. This is the main reason why I like the first-gen BMW Z3s. A little more connection there, even if there are some faults.
I was about to ask the same thing...have you driven one? A friend and co-worker had one back in 2001 and while I enjoyed getting on the gas and it was quick and it looks nice, it’s a very, very strange driving experience as if you are piloting a pillbox on wheels. Visibility is almost null and it is an extremely small…
I had a weekend test drive/loan with one of these 1st gen TT Quattros in convertible form a few years after they came out. Loved the power and the performance but even with the convertible and top down, I felt like I was in a bathtub. Super claustrophobic for me. I am 5'8 and with the seat all the way up only the very…
Agreed. Casualties, especially civilian, in modern warfare should be strictly accidental. Slaughtering and allowing our own to be slaughtered over philosophical differences is unnecessary and beneath human dignity.
I believe S. Korea’s newest tanks were designed to be networked together and can continue to be controlled by a command center if the crew is lost or bails. They also have remote (and maybe semi autonomous - can’t remember) weapons emplacements that can be brought up to the border if the North ever attacks.
The DoD is actively working on teleoperated/semi-autonomous tanks, but isn’t quite there yet. https://insidedefense.com/insider/rcv-prototype-award-scheduled-november
The army’s FCS program was supposed to integrate a developmental force of next generation armored combat vehicles, drone, remote video, and a menu of smart munitions.
Holy samolians, that’s a very nice looking Fiata!
That show car was painfully beautiful.
Full size tanks are still too finicky to be reliably handed over to drone tech. Much easier to have a large number of aerial drones providing air support and over watch.
It’ll happen if this and the stelvio sells well
? Other then the color and chrome bits I don’t really see the similarity...
Ive been thinking the same for some time! Such machines will be inevitable.
They will likely come in various flavors for different situations.
i.e those remotely controlled by some type of secure comms or types that work closely with MBTs (for when they need to put people into the battle)
Are RPGs a threat to these?
Are we at the stage where we can have unmanned remote controlled tanks like we have with drones? It does not make sense to me to have 3 to 4 crew members at risk from air strikes or RPGs out there in the field especially with guerrilla warfare.
that car is hideous. I find all mcLarens to be ugly overworked designs to begin with, but the senna is just full on barf.
compare it to the AM/RB Valkyrie and it the senna looks even worse. the AM/RB makes function look beautiful, graceful and lithe. the Senna looks like a brute force solution
