Which is weird, because at least with my car, it has to be locked to enable the remote start. Seems like a safety issue with kids...and thieves I guess.

That’s Sea Man thank you very much.
Snivel, snivel, snivel.... Yes, America in the 21st century—where every umbrage-filled whiner will piss ‘n’ moan at the drop of a hat.
Or the vehicle breaks down, they cant afford to fix it so the dealership says we can just take it in on trade as is and roll the negative equity into a different vehicle. I know this first hand having been there done that and saw family and friends do the same thing.
So just two steps to replace them though?
Yup, but you mod-motor guys have a good selection of billet replacements.
It’s not just the chain tensioners, its that they are made out of plastic that is the real problem.

I thought the W12 Phaeton nudged just past the W8 Passat for most unreliable VW?
I always thought of the W8 as half a Veyron engine. 4.0L W8/8.0L W16?

It has a 2000 payload, and a 2000 pound tow-rating? Is it normal for those number to be the same?
First off, thanks for the info. I was going to google it when I had a chance. The rating difference between the U.S. and Europe makes more sense now. To me, that does not change the capability of the vehicle/driver combination though.
Lots of us. When they both want to take a friend somewhere or we have to take parents as well it is perfect. The rest of the time it allows us to haul crap with ease, much more so than any other vehicle on the market.
European tow ratings are also based on a few other assumptions, though.
