Permanent termination of parental custody

Actually, I'm pretty sure you can get a court order along those lines, but more importantly, why would you want to? If a teenager who had a baby at 16 is neglectful, is she doomed to be neglectful for the rest of her life? I'd be a shame if someone went through all the hardship of getting their life together, getting

I scrolled through these horrible comments only to post the same thing. Some things never change.

Warms my heart to see so many jez readers support eugenics. It's almost as if (white) feminists have a long history of supporting such policies.

Yeah, it's not common, but the combination of older women who had this happen to them years ago still being in the healthcare system now plus a few communities or situations in which a provider regularly oversteps their authority means it's still common enough.

To piggyback of what Vulcan Has No Moon said, I know a middle class white woman who was sleeping in the same bed with her baby when it died. (Maybe SIDS? Maybe she rolled over and smothered him?) There may have been a little investigation, but it was done in a way that would be sensitive to her loss.

If you read the story, she and the baby were sleeping in the same bed and it died. If this were a wealthy, white Park Slope yuppie mother "Co-Sleeping", there wouldn't be charges because it would be a "tragic accident" or "SIDS".

The woman is mentally ill and needs a doctor not a jail. Looking at the Boston Globe article it would seem like the baby died of sids and the real issue is that she didn't immediately call 911. Instead she took a cab to hospital and it took her two hours to finally get her baby some care. It's very possible this baby

That's like saying it's okay for a prosecutor to go to someone accused of theft and offer them a plea bargain with no jail time as long as they agreed to have their hands cut off as punishment.

As a healthcare provider serving in Virginia, this is no surprise to me. I have never seen a "legal" forced sterilization but I've seen some "Mississippi appendectomies" where a patient was essentially given a sterilization without her informed consent. Every single patient with this story has been a woman of color.

I remember my mom making an offhand remark one day that my grandma refused to go to the tribal clinic while she was having a baby. She didn't want to be sterilized. She knew what happened to a number of women who went there and she didn't want to be one of them.

There are no winners in the toast story. Not the batshit crazy customer that doesn't know how words work (and who gets that irate at any toast-related issue?). But the server doesn't win either, I mean he/she could see that the toast was, in fact, wheat toast. Every time a new plate came out, it was wheat, right? How

I lived something similar.
When I moved to the US, I was lonely, learning the language and going through a major change of heart. A friend of mine from school, who was also a foreigner, introduced me to the wonders of the now defunct Yahoo chat. After many "let me see your cam" "are you dtf?" and so on, I finally

I've been praying non-stop for a sign from God if I myself am making a good choice on leaving my abusive boyfriend, at this very moment I'm packing my things hoping for a safe get away while he is at work, I am more scared then I've ever been, scared because I know he will come after me but also scared because I feel

I am so happy that you got out of this relationship. Thank you for sharing your story, I wish you nothing but happiness in your future.

Rebuttal: as stated already, lactose intolerance prevalence differs based on ethnicity. Using Asians or Africans to dictate the diets of Northern Europeans (who are largely NOT lactose intolerant) ignores the diversity of human evolution and cultural development. Natural selection shaming, Jezebel? Do you know no

Um...guys...it's not okay to point and laugh at other peoples' bodies. I'm the last person in the world to be all "what about the men!1!!1!" and I generally have close to zero sympathy for penis anxiety, but the way people are reacting to this is fucking gross and really, really surprising for Jezebel. There are

I have so, so many, but this one... I like to call it Hot Cocoa. While making chili I realize the red tide had begun and ran to the bathroom to put in a tampon. I swear I washed my hands, but the sheer quantity of capsicum on my hands was not deterred by mere soap and water. To make matters worse, I had recently read

I would say the majority of the US is against killing children to prove a point.
