When our son was younger, I did more picking up, since leaving, say, a SAW lying around was a bit dangerous. Now I step around the stuff till it drives me so nuts I just take care of it. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

If I didn't do it, it would never get done. Occasionally I have to ask for assistance, like when we re-did the lighting in the dining room. Sometimes a second set of hands helps.

If I have to "build up a tolerance" to a candy, I feel like the makers of that candy have failed miserably.
