Without Jedi reflexes to deflect the bolts, the properties of Valyrian steel become irrelevant. :P

As Brian wrote, clones were eventually phased out and the Empire began recruiting (sometimes coercively) citizens to become stormtroopers. This was established in the first season of Rebels.
I haven’t a clue why he changed is mind, but he does appear to have done so.
It was pretty eye opening to read that recent io9 article about the logistics of attending comic con. For a short time, I was content with never having attended, because it sounded like so much work. But I really wish I was there this year, and it’s made me put “attend comic con” back on my bucket list.
That sounds lovely! I can imagine that those Eastman students had fun. I certainly did when I performed with my college concert band in a concert of film music, including the suite from Giacchino’s Star Trek score. I played the marimba part at the beginning of the suite. It was a magical experience!
Patrick Rothfuss explaining why his book will probably never be a show and why he doesn’t want it to be a movie.
Do you mean next year? I assume most of it will focus on Rogue One, since it will probably have finished shooting. I can’t imagine there will be a lot of Ep. VIII stuff going on.
I was just telling my girlfriend today that not only would I like to attend comic con someday, but even more, I want to see Star Wars in concert. The fact that these guys got to see the Star Wars panel at SDCC and enjoy a music and light-show while sitting in a sea of lightsabers fills me with jealousy. This should…
I can definitely understand why they do not want to release to film this winter, with The Force Awakens coming out and all, but waiting almost a year to release a finished film seems extreme. What other big films are coming out soon that’s pushing them all the way into next summer?
If they are going to do this film, I hope they give us a reason to like Han Solo despite the fact that he was kinda an asshole, instead of expecting us to like him because he was a selfish prick. This is the thing that worries me most about this. The impulse within the fandom to glamorize the younger and less mature…
Yeah, I get that. And I hope that means it’s going to be good. I was just responding to your original post suggesting that Lord and Miller are going to save this movie, where I think whoever saves this film will be the people who write it, which unfortunately is not Lord and Miller. I wish they were, though. They are…
All I’m saying is that Lord and Miller’s reputation for making films that look like bad ideas on paper into great films with clever writing is irrelevant if they are not writing the film. I’d love to think the Kasdan’s writing this project is going to save it, but what is the last film Lawrence Kasdan wrote that you…
They have written all the bad-idea-turned-great films they have made, though, which is not going to be the case here. These guys are genius writers, but without them writing, is this really going to save this film from being bad.
Are you sure about that? I feel like he was trying specifically to appeal to our nostalgia by stuffing the prequels full of references, but wasn’t self aware enough to understand that most of them didn’t land.
I have had the exact same experience. It was tough explaining to them that my problem with the film is that it was trying too hard to appeal to my fandom, not that the problem was the film felt cheaply nostalgic.
Yup. It’s not over-reliance on the originals that sinks the prequels. It’s just plain bad writing.
All of that may be true, but how is any of that relevant to what I wrote or the topic at hand? The prequels have many problems, I just think reliance on the originals is pretty low on the list. Khan being thrown into the center of a storyline where he does not belong is the entire problem with Into Darkness, however,…
Honestly, I cannot tell if people hate these films because they rely too much on the originals, or deviate from them too much, because I often hear people making booth arguments. I personally think the prequels are pretty much complete overhauls with many references to the originals, and don’t really commit the same…
JJ has talked openly in interviews about how he went back and forth with the writers about who the villain should be, and that they decided Khan “just resonated”. Surprisingly, Roberto Orci, a writer I have little to no respect for, argued against the idea, believing that John Harrison should simply have remained John…
95% of their reveiws are nit-picking about plot holes, which feels like the opposite of insightful, to me. The stuff I enjoy most these days are reading Film Crit Hulk and watching Every Frame a Painting. Here is Film Crit Hulk’s essay on plot holes.
