My favorite thing about the transfer window is how many rumors there are that involve player exchanges between clubs, which almost never happen. People always freak out about those - Alexis for Sterling is the most recent - but they’re a sure-fire sign that the rumor is total garbage.

At spring training in 1998, Jose Cardenal gave me a ball and talked to my dad and I for like, 15 minutes. Great guy.

No, but I did just finish law school in Wisconsin, so we’re on eerily similar tracks through life here.

Could’ve been. I had an SI for Kids subscription as a kid, but I was only 3 in 1993, so I wouldn’t remember that specifically.

Pat Listach and Ricky Bones. I was a Yankees fan living in New York state; I have no idea why I had such an affinity for two scrubs who played for the Brewers. It was a weird coincidence that they both got traded to the Yankees in 1996.

Re: Dual ownership in UEFA competition

I thought he was dead. Confused my early 90s Phillies.

The craziest thing about this clip is how quickly out #2 gets put up on the scoreboard. Props to whoever runs that.

UEFA needs to come down way harder on this shit than they do. This happens multiple times every year in games with Balkan teams, whether in club or international play. It’s ridiculous.

That attitude is what led to the resurgence of Holocaust denial on American college campuses, so I don’t think you’re correct.

People have survived falls from planes.

No. Allocation and all those weird player acquisition methods are fucking stupid.

The best part about Glenn Murray is that his professional career started with the Wilmington Hammerheads in the old USL Pro (third division). And he wasn’t even good! Hell of an uptick in fortune.

And PSG is paying Neymar the GDP of a small country to play for them because they aren’t as prestigious as Barcelona. What’s your point?

Yelling at Billy’s awful hot takes is my version of therapy.

Only twice as many people watch the best hockey league in the world, one that’s been a part of the American sporting landscape for a century? Sounds like an indictment of the NHL more than anything else.

People who watch it?

D.C. United drops upwards of $3.5 million plus a seven-figure salary to sign Paul Arriola today. LA drops $8 million to bring Carlos Vela to an expansion team. Dom Dwyer gets sold (between two MLS teams!) two weeks ago for $1.5 million.

Please don’t ever take your child to a brewery or, frankly, any alcohol-themed event.

This feels like a win-win.
