And since they are created by companies, corporate ownership copyright in the US lasts 95 years since publication or 120 years since creation (whichever comes first).So we won’t see a copyright free video game in a very long time.

Actually I wish they would use dolls like the originals again for Cover art and promotion. They look a bajillion times better than any CG rendering ever had and ever will be.
