By and large, gun violence occurs in urban areas, not small Southern towns. Moreover, while gun ownership has increased in this country, gun violence has dropped precipitously - nearly 50% in the last 20 years.

Sadly large parts of the south is likely the same way today... driving through the Florida panhandle and southern Georgia... oh boy.

Cops shoot WAY too easily in America when confronted by people of colour especially African Americans. Your polices training on use of force and escalation is woefully in adequate, anyone who says other ways is either ignorant or willfully blind.

Well yeah, the only way to defend yourself against the Klan was firearms. It’s pretty messed up to think the 50s and 60s wasn’t that removed from the Wild West, but it was basically it in the South. Of course, White people couldn’t stand it, and in order to keep THEIR America, they did what selfish folk would do.

Yep, that’s what I think when a black man writes about an episode of television which — however unsubtly — covers both American gun culture and how tightly tied it is to racism.
