I don't have a definite answer, but I would suspect that a storm window would have little effect on reducing solar heat gain. That being said, the extra layer of glass creates a second, thicker air pocket which acts as insulation. Insulation is just as important in the summer because it keeps the inside air cooler

There is potential here for a sabot-style projectile.... Mr. Sprave, I await your response.

In architecture school, I was taught that sunlight looses about 2/3 of its heat on contact with the first surface it "lands" on. What this means for occupants is that shades on the INSIDE of the window trap the heat and allow it to gradually warm up the room, while shades on the OUTSIDE of the window effectively stop

This layout sounds oddly familiar... Cockeysville?

Oddly, I recently sold my WRX because of the poor gas mileage (I commute). Replaced it with a barebones '07 BMW 328i. Its a stunningly smooth car compared to the rough-ish Subaru, though the 3 is definitely less of a sports car. I have been averaging 30-32 mpg though, even with the I6 (which ain't exactly a lump).

This is really true, what you say about buttpucker. The first time I drove a dumper (a small, 10-yard baby), with a bed full of gravel, I felt that sudden fear. I had just left the yard, heading toward the main road, and I was pulling up to a 4-way stop. I had just driven the truck an hour to get to the yard, so I

That's seriously the only thing I remembered from this video. I wish we had them in the ol' US of A...

That's going to be a full French Roast. Maybe Italian.

I owned a DeLorean once, and I actually agree with you. There were plenty made in the 80s, and not that many have succumbed to rust (obviously), so they aren't that rare. Plus, I took time a while ago to read through this guy's website dedicated to all his DeLorean shenanigans, and he seems like a guy who doesn't take

There is something about older Japanese econo-boxes that gives me a tingly-happy feeling inside. This one is no exception.

You're not the only one at all. Chris had a massive influence on BMW and automotive design at large. In my opinion, what made his cars so unique and special was how he though of the surface of the automobile; For generations, auto sheet metal was "supposed" to look like Big Cats, Sexy Women, and Muscles (yes, sex and

This makes me so happy! Thanks!

I saw millions (literally!) of these little tiny Japanese work trucks when I visited Singapore last year. They all had little beds that were suspiciously close the 4'x8' standard dimensions of most American building materials, and nice aluminum-and-canvas canopies over the back. I pretty much lusted over every single

I was really hoping someone else had read Forge of God.... People stumble across a giant rock with a mysterious opening? Come on guys, we all know where this is heading. Just wait for the one in Australia to turn up.

Jesus God yes... I've been waiting for someone to post this.

Rehab...

Now I'm imagining a very large gravel trap, like in F1. Or like those semi-truck emergency stop routes on WVA highways. Just a gravel pit, nicely landscaped (very zen!), and blammo: no more cars in your living room.

I would think that the bridge is partly to blame here. Most likely it's a "humped" bridge, thus obscuring the view ahead to the stop sign. It might have been safer to construct a flat bridge. As things stand, though, I believe a simple "STOP AHEAD" sign on the other side would do nicely... Not that most idiot drivers

Hilariously awesome car (trust me, I'm a doctor). But alas, it is a two-seater and does not apply...

I came here to post this as well. It just seems like the perfect car for all occasions. You can take it to the shops, you can blast it down the strip, you can take it canyon carving (though maybe not so fast, eh?). I would drive one to work every damn day if I could...
