Whoopi has given us so many text book examples of the complicated, internalized web of prejudice and denial in this country.

Bingo. Look up the damn definition of racism, Whoopi - treating someone differently based upon the color of their skin. OF COURSE there is a wide range of the severity of that differential treatment, ranging from physical violence to lack of warmth or attention in social settings. Doesn't mean it doesn't stem from

While blatant, violent racism still exists, it is far less prevalent today, but subtle racism has not changed much over the decades. Distrust of black people is a major part of modern racism. As Cox points out, we have implicit, unconscious biases that manifest in a myriad of ways. Studies have shown that these more

I don't even know what to make of this reply. It seems you either completely missed or are chosing to ignore my point, and instead assume I do not know the difference between idealized tv characters and real people. Which is ludicrous.

TV fathers letting us down left and right. It might be a stretch, but there is something about holding the ultimate patriarchal position in pop culture while at the same time abusing all the privilege that comes with it while in private that makes Cosby's and Collins's actions all the more disgusting. It is the gender

Never realized the strong "man children who need a woman to civilize them" this story had until right this minute.

I would prefer overacting. Williams is just a wide-eyed smiling bad accent.

I can take Allison Williams. What I cannot stomach are all the horrid Melissa Joan Hart Walmart commercials. You've sold your soul, Clarissa.

I was so disappointed when she started with the transphobic stuff. It was as if my feminist fairy godmother had died.

*slow clap* I'm impressed with her range and aim.

You cannot explain this to feminists because they do not accept the concept of motherhood.

Have you seen it? It has my two favorite things in movies: historical fiction and a strong, trope-busting female lead character. Like if The Hunger Games was set in medieval Europe.

Shorter Ashton: It's actually about ethics in cab journalism.

The scene where Drew Barrymore is walking out of that asshole's castle because she FUCKING SAVED HERSELF while whats-his-name was riding up to "rescue" her was a defining moment for my budding feminist self. EVER AFTER 4 EVA.

Looks like they dipped generously from the well that is Downton Abbey to fill out the cast! Lady Rose as Cinderella, and it looks like Daisy the cook is one of the wicked step-sisters.

I said this down thread, but IIRC they didn't die. They witnessed Abe kill a man who was threatening him, became afraid, and left him during the night. They show Abe wake up and look for them, then find a note that said "Don't look for us." Which makes it worse, in a way. His family didn't die due to tragic

I don't think Abraham's family died? From what I recall of the flashbacks, Abe's wife and kids saw him kill a man who was threatening them, and his wife and kids became afraid of him. That's why they weren't there when Abraham woke up, and left the "Don't look for us" note. Right?

If I am remembering correctly, then

Birth stories are war stories. It was one of the most painful, interesting events in my life, so I tell people about it. I tailor the details to the audience, of course, but a lot of the time people want to know. Like, conversation, bro.

You are using modern medicine to give your baby the best shot at a healthy entrance into the world because it is what need and want to do. You are doing it right.

Yeah, I am no fan of Scott Brown, either. Do you have some specific instances in mind that you could link to?
