Add Primer to this list. Sure, Back to the Future is a vastly better overall movie by comparison, duh, but Primer is a better time travel movie.

Beyond The Black Rainbow is literally the best film I’ve seen in the last twentyfive years. I grew up on surreal 1970s/1980s direct-to-video scifi schlock, and this film perfectly mixes that with the same mind-expanding trippyness of Altered States. I’ve forced all of my friends to watch it with me. Approximately…
They don’t eat the baby, they eat the baby’s potential, which most babies have a lot of, one assumes
The doctor didn’t directly murder anyone. He pulled down the ship, the steeple just happened to pierce the Goblin King. You’re assigning malice that doesn’t exist. Also, I’m going to be honest - this is just a worst version of the episode. You miss out on some absolutely great character moments, you cut the stuff with…
Janis Goblin.
But he doesnt murder the Goblin King?
I think it’s clear we’re going to learn who her mother is before the end of her tenure - there’s too much set up for it, and it also seems to be her motivation to join the Doctor, but I too hope her mom is not someone super important. It’s okay if the mom is a bit unusual (a temporarily time-displaced future person,…
I think the sentiment comes from seeing how happy Ruby’s family is and then seeing how not happy they are without her. They don’t really show what about Ruby made such a big difference to the people around her except that she seems relentlessly positive, but it doesn’t really matter yet. In addition to pairing her up…
It’s always the Rani.
The Doctor seeing himself as a foundling is a great idea: it not only gives Fifteen a bit of pathos, but it provides the emotional anchor for all the Timeless Child stuff that Chibnall’s writing never gave us.
eh. Rose had a good exit being in another universe. It would be interesting if she was simply because she’d be a quarter Time Lord but no need to go back to that well.
The big mystery for the season?
“And then when they rappel back down from the airship, which has been flying around this whole time, they drop directly onto Ruby’s rooftop again. That might be a script issue, except nothing in the scene acknowledges their location. Literally any exterior location would’ve done the job, so why did they re-use the…
I was hoping he’d keep the kilt, or since that wasn’t the case, that he would change wardrobe between every shot without explanation. But I like the new Doctor, and I can see him growing into the role and making it his own in time. The goblin story was kind of silly, but it’s not like the show has never done that…
JUST ONCE in my life I want to be able to yell “Rock it, Janice!” and get my adversary’s band to strike up the tune that I’ll use to freestyle my way out of there. I don’t think I’m asking too much from the universe.
I think mavity is a fun gag, so long as they use it sparingly (and I AM expecting an explicit visit with Hot Newton to fix it).
It’s going to take me a bit to get used to the Doctor clubbing but I’m here for it. Overall a fun episode and Gatwa and Gibson were both great.
You can keep hoping but I suspect if you’re not happy with modern Who as it currently is then maybe it’s just not for you and never will be. RTD will probably stick around for another three to four years at least. Same with Ncuti Gatwa.
And they did a bit of lampshading to set this up in WILD BLUE YONDER with the “salt at the edge of the universe” thing: The Doctor basically let magic into the universe by accident.
I feel like a lot of Moffat’s stuff has always been of the “dark fairytale” variety, which blends softly-casual into fantasy anyway, so I’m fine with it. Plus time-surfing flying Goblins are a pretty fun concept.
