@fx4d: I know that some people with a lot of extra RAM (16 or 24 GB) install Windows entirely into the RAM. I'm not completely sure how it's done, but I imagine the result is similar to what they're describing in the article — except it wouldn't be just Windows, it would be everything, it would be dynamic and it…
@Phantom6612: I didn't like Fallout 3 either, but I'm loving New Vegas. Talked about it quite a lot with hagren, as a matter of fact. They are very different beasts, even if the initial impression is that NV is just an extension of FO3. Less tedium, better writing, many sub-plots that are actually interesting... I'm…
@hagren: Oh, good, because I do like them both.
@hagren: You won't mind if I copy that and paste it with my username at the bottom, will ya? :P
@Phantom6612: I really need to play KotOR... I got it during Steam's holiday sale, but New Vegas is hogging all of my free time these days.
@hagren: The writing is indeed very good. I like for example how each vault you come across has a story that sets it apart from the others.
@Tenacious_Z: Holy crap, you're right! Close your eyes, press play, and you'd think it was Geoff.
@Lexyl: Consider the BIOS ditched: [en.wikipedia.org] I don't know how much EFI improves start-up times, though - the first mobos have only just been released.
That's nice, but I can wait 30 seconds for my OS to load. Now, if it improves performance during normal use to the same extent, I'd be very interested.
I should probably shut up after my long post below, but I was surprised by one of Totilo's comments, particularly because he's the one who championed RDR: "their side-missions are so much more interesting and memorable than the game's main adventure."
@hagren: Speaking of games that satisfied me... this is completely off-topic, but I'm 35 hours into New Vegas and I'm absolutely loving it, so thank you! Without your advice, I would have let my lukewarm appreciation of Fallout 3 make me miss out on a great game.
I've written and spoken so much and so often about why I love this game that I almost feel tapped out.
@Tenacious_Z: A person of taste, I see. :)
@el.kameleon: He-heh, I laughed — and I'm one of those ripped-off Europeans.
@The Sentient Meat: I hadn't heard about that, but for some reason, I have nooo problem believing it.
@the-hypnotoad: ME2 forced me to fight the gamer's instinct to react to those prompts as though they were QTEs.
@DominusSapientia: I have the other consoles, too, so I meant competition in terms of time, not "what I could buy instead of a 3DS" (although that's also a worthy consideration for others).
@SaanZ: That's unless Sony come out with a $300 or even $350 price tag, which I wouldn't put beyond them.
@DominusSapientia: That makes sense: if you're going to buy it just a few months down the road, might as well get it at launch. The price won't drop and you won't have to worry about post-release shortages or jacked-up prices on eBay.
