I find it interesting that everyone saying they were a bad organization in 1999, are still a bad organization, and we should condemn them for those bad things can’t seem to share any details on what any of the bad stuff actually is. All I could find from doing actual research was that they started to include Black

It's absolutely something to apologize for. That's my point. This is way lower on the priority scale.

I totally believe you that it’s about awful organization. I have no doubt about that. But I don’t agree that it’s incumbent on her to publicly denounce them. Maybe this is bordering on whataboutism, but countless successful actors are actively involved in Scientology, a much more harmful and wide reaching

Except for the soap part

What “debate”? It’s either over or you’re a psychopath.

Frankly a “solid” pass is the best case scenario for these things and it’s just going to get worse from there.

But fur coats are so pretty and luxurious!

“In either scenario, according to you we shouldn’t worry about that because your wife, and my wife for that matter, haven’t had any problems with Uber/Lyft.”

But apparently your experience is anecdotal and therefore not important.

I’m black and a woman. In the 3 years I’ve used Uber I’ve only had 2 bad rides, which is amazing compared to the unlimited horrible taxi rides I used to have. I agree with your wife; I’ll never use a taxi again if I can help it.

Yep, it’s not like cabs were some amazing, utopian offering, which seems to be how these stories on Uber present them as an alternative.

If a competitor to Uber is seen as less racist, why shouldn’t they win more business?

There are a lot of potential issues with this study. First and most important, the study was of 1500 ‘short rides’ in only 2 cities. This might sound like a lot, but for a scientific study it’s not really that big. You would need tens or even hundreds of thousands of rides of varying lengths to and from varying

“If the study provides impetus for Uber to anonymize the app a bit more to make it harder for drivers to express their racism or sexism, is that good or bad?”

A woman what? a group of women what?

No - it is much easier to drive conclusions with poorly conducted studies.

One thing I did not see here was the break down of the drivers’ ethnicities cancelling on riders. Is it all white dudes cancelling, or is it spread evenly? I did read the whole article here quickly; so I may have missed it. Is there any data to show what the pick-up rate for cabs and black people was before Uber? Is

Taking something while promising to pay for it and then saying never mind down the road is not the solution. The cost of an education should be fair and not inflated, but breaking a loan contract is not the way to get that changed.

OH! For sure! I 100% agree that "work harder/smarter" isn't the end of the argument. We definitely need major reforms, and not just in education, but in many aspects of our society.
