They (GoT writers) were dead set on assassinating the character of Stannis. I have no idea if it’ll happen in the books (thanks, George...) but it certainly hasn’t yet, and in the books, Stannis’ use of Melisandre’s tricks has been more of a “Cool if it works, no prob if it doesn’t” and he’s certainly a lot more…
