The NO Campaign is being heavily subsidized by right-wing American groups, who are bringing a lot of their right-wing political tactics with them. Also, people like Dr Patricia Casey, who is a senior consultant of psychiatry for the HSE (and member of the ultra-conservative Iona Institute) have been publishing op-ed

My main worry is the Divorce referendum we had in 1995 - opinion polls before that one showed massive support for the referendum there too - but in the end it barely squeaked past. If people get complacent and stay home, we’re fucked.

Hey, some friends of mine did the song for that ad! So proud of them!

People in Ireland are trying to work on it and there is lot of cases going through human rights courts, one day they will get there but most politicians do care that majority of people support abortion. It would also help if Religious Americans kept their nose out of it, they are pushing women's rights back in America

As an Irish Yes campaigner, we’re kinda terrified it won’t pass! It’s likely to be really close; divorce passed by less than 51%. The polls are in favour, but they include casual Yeses who might not vote and “quiet Nos” who say they don’t know if asked face to face but will vote No in the privacy of the voting booth.

Divorce was passed in Ireland in 1995 with 50.3% of the vote. At peak support a few months earlier 71.8% were in favour (see here). Makes me quite nervous about this referendum.

I’m so glad that Sister Stanislaus Kennedy plus other liberal-minded nuns and priests are making their voting intentions publicly known prior to the May 22nd same-sex marriage referendum. Surely, they are helping change hearts and minds — the non-given would be by how much — so they deserve a lot of credit for

My friend is in that ad! I really hope everyone gets out and votes. The ‘no’ side and their fear mongering over what’ll happen to the children are really starting to piss me off.

...unless they’re gay at the moment.

It will probably pass and will suspect that more than 58% will vote yes, also once again religious Americans are meddling in Ireland and they have donated a huge amount to the No campaign. It is interesting that Ireland probably will legalize same-sex marriage before USA does in every State.

This is the first election I’ve ever cared about. I am so excited to vote. I am so excited to be a part of this. It’s genuinely historic. But I am so terrified of the “Twitter echo chamber” leading Yes voters to believe it will be a comfortable win. I think there are a lot of ashamed No voters keeping that to

Admitily, I’m neither Irish nor Catholic but I am cautiously optimistic about it. Depending on the poll, it is as high as 70+% to lows being just above 50%. However, we must remember the lessons of Prop 8 where the polls leading up to all showed that it would be defeated. The Catholic church is opposed to it and they

Kudos to Sister Stan, but let’s be clear: the Church hierarchy very much wants a no vote.

Now playing

Based on the polls, the referendum will definitely pass, as long as everyone who says they’ll vote yes does so. (After last week’s British election stunner, this is hardly a sure thing.)

There is no reasonable argument in favour of a no vote so organisations like Mothers and Fathers Matter are trying to confuse the issue with irrelevant ramblings, I’ll be glad when the referendum is over so I don’t have to see their awful posters anymore.

Good advice but if you live in a place with no actual sunlight, 56 degrees north - things are not so great and you have to resort to other options. I am basically your level to Alaska. I love Scotland but the lack of light in winter is a real serious health concern. Especially now that I have given up drinking!

I had that paradox too. I have told my levels are low for someone with my physical appearance (pale, ginger-blonde). But considering I come from a dark haired family of Irish and Welsh people who all tan really well without burning (yes milkman jokes haha), it is more of an ironic quirk of genes.

If I ever have to live in a place with winter again, I want to move to Sweden, where they have light *rooms* provided by the national health service.

A few minutes here and there can absolutely be beneficial. I live in Portland, and had also stopped drinking milk, and I ended up breaking my wrist without knowing how, because I was on the verge of rickets.

Yeah you are ignoring that she sent that tweet to a UKIP supporter, most of the vile attacks came from UKIP supporters not SNP.
