Just so you know (in case you didn’t), flashes are these bands you put on over your socks at the top to hold them up. You fold the sock top over them, and these little flags (often red) hang down on the outside of the calf as a decoration. (When I googled for pics, I saw both types of flashes.)

I think it’s partly the idea some younger feminists have that since violence is a crime, women should be able to do whatever we want and not get hurt. That’s not realistic, but ignoring the victims makes it easier to pretend it’s possible, maybe, someday. Denial, denial.
