Yup, me too. Always bothered me, but always worked. Go figure.

I sort of do something like this for my own library as well—I wouldn’t limit this to streaming. While there is a large collection that is always on my phone (4 and 5 star tracks and 5 star albums), I also have a smart playlist that keeps 3, 4 and 5 star tracks that are less than 6 months old and tracks with any rating…
Perhaps I’ll get taken apart by the commentariat for saying this, but I’m not sure that dining with friends is the equivalent in importance of “family meals” if you are a parent. I’m not denigrating having dinner regularly with friends, or saying that friends don’t take the place of family for many people, or that…
I’m going to disagree on this one. This is basically a textbook. I’ve read large chunks of it, and it is about the last book I’d recommend as a starter cookbook—it would drive most beginning cooks to order delivery for the rest of their lives. It starts, if I’m recalling correctly, with sanitation considerations…
My sense is that a lot of the LH community is still in the early professional years rather than family rearing years, which changes the structure of your life a lot. I’ve got a kid, and dinner time is one of the only times where we get to sit down and consciously talk to one another about what is going on with each…
The old version of this is one of the first cookbooks I got, and it is still in my kitchen. I’ve got hundreds of cookbooks, but very few retain a spot on the short shelf in the actual kitchen because space is limited—this is one. It is amazingly complete. However, I still have a love/hate relationship with it. While…
Festool tools use Tanos systainers. The tools are hideously expensive, but I swear by them. And, because they are modular and snap together, I can quickly snap together a rack for about any task—put on a rolling base and I’m highly portable with what I need. They also have empty ones and ones with drawers if you want…
I agree. Make them task specific—plumbing, electrical, drywall, picture/shelf hanging... Really easy to create an immoveable object if you put all your tools in a big box, especially since you don’t need 99% of it 99% of the time.
Eh, these are outside the cupcake liner, so it shouldn’t integrate itself with the edible part. I’m guessing you just brush ‘em off the liner.
I am disappointed there isn’t a follow on for cake batter-flavored rice pudding.
Since the cove cut isn’t considered “unsafe,” I’m not sure this is unsafe per se, since it is basically the same thing. But—like a cove cut—this will require raising the blade in very small increments. Since the blade is cutting out, effectively, a quarter circle rather than just a 1/8” wide standard kerf cut, you…
To cut a circle, you basically just need a rotation point. Tables on bandsaws aren’t typically huge, but it wouldn’t be much of an issue to mount a pivot on an external table and clamp it to the bandsaw table. You’ll need to either make relief cuts or build your turntable so it is adjustable to get closer to the line…
I tend to vacuum seal a lot of meals and put them in the deep freezer, so this doesn’t come up that often—I can always defrost some homemade soup, some braised/stewed meat dish, or some smoked (but not yet pulled) pork. That said, if I want something fast and can’t even be bothered to walk to the basement, fried…
Something I remember from driving classes 35 years ago—driving barefoot in my state is not a violation of state law. However, any number of the beach communities in the state had specific ordinances against it that could get you a ticket within their jurisdictional limits.
Seems like a riff on a cove cut. But since cove cuts scare the #$%#$ out of me, doubt I’ll be doing this. I can hack up a jig to cut circles on my bandsaw, which is designed to cut curves, just as easily.
From their care and use page: “The black phenolic lid knobs on our Signature range of enameled cast iron are heat-resistant to 480°F / 250°C.” The “Classic” knobs are only good to 375F, however. Still, since I mostly braise in mine, I don’t know that I ever exceed 350F anyway.
Phenolic, not plastic.
Interesting timing, since this just popped up in my RSS feed:
No. My grill will reach temperatures in excess of 500F, and this isn’t a problem. Since the oil won’t ignite, it means a paper towel impregnated with oil isn’t going to burn either. I do this every time I grill—heat it up, wire brush, and rub grill with a paper towel with some peanut oil soaked into it.
I like a well organized garage, but I have to laugh at all the “organized” garages I see. My garage houses 2 road bikes, 2 mountain bikes, 2 kid bikes, camping gear, climbing gear (rock, ice, aid), caving gear, sleds, auto tools, a milling machine, a metal lathe, tooling, a TCT saw, a welding table, oxy-acetylene…
