I think if we want video games to progress as an art form, we do need to stop using the word "fun," and start using the word "engaging." Look at novels, many are fun and those are great, but there are also engaging, thoughtful novels that are often even more acclaimed than the "fun" ones. Many of the of the "classics"…

This is my kind of "fun." Moral ambiguity. Decisions that actually affect game play. Different outcomes (more than just color coding or a few different cut scenes). Catch 22s. Ethical choices.

I'm just glad I'm not alone in this! I ran downstairs to ask my parents if they watch The Glades (oh god, no, I don't live at home, I am just visiting for a month before I move across the country), and they were both like 'Once? Maybe?' and I felt extra lame, because they actually have fairly good taste.

Well, clearly I watch The Glades (altho not this season - it started while I was overseas and I'll just mainline it all at once), since I recognized the Captain in the wedding pictures (before recognizing Sanchez! SIGH!).

I used to have similar mixed feelings on burqa bans, until it was pointed out to me that often the practical result of those bans is preventing those women from having any participation at all in the public sphere.
