Oh, totally. It's the bystander effect. But it's hard to compare the diversity at an NFL game with that at a home game in Italy/Russia/etc. The very issue is how homogeneous and racist those countries are.

I don't think the article is being intolerant, I think it's presenting an interesting perspective on why it might be that he's 'pretending to be white'. There's not much judgement in it; I found it a very interesting read regarding race and colourism in a different country.

Colourism is somewhat fascinating in places where whites are a minority. It's not a binary, there's no one-drop rule. Okay, well there's still a binary, because whites are still most likely the privileged class, but outside of them it's a whole spectrum.

True, it won't make people un-racist, but it may decrease the number of public, active acts of racism people have to deal with. Banning people who throw bananas at matches doesn't make those people suddenly not racist, but it does mean black players don't have to deal with that shit.
