For me REM is hard to love, and hard to hate, super vanilla. I'm 35, REM to me is "Stand, Shiny Happy People, Everybody Hurts, etc". I can take it or leave it. They are on the mount rushmore of overrated rockers... Even their hits are milquetoast.
