I love bookstores. I can't rationalize owning actual books when NY real estate is as expensive as it is. If real estate is worth about $5 psf per month on a rental value, that wall of bookshelves is a very expensive proposition.

Books cost a lot of money to store if you live in NYC. Ergo, it makes a lot of sense to hold a license from Amazon subject to whatever conditions you get as opposed to ownership of a physical book.

You also have to put it somewhere. Manhattan real estate costs over $1k per square foot.
