Sony was a cheap low quality tape. For dictation it would be fine, though. There where much better options, Maxell and Nakamichi comes to mind, although those said brands made tapes that required stronger heads to record/play I think mainly in the longevity of the mechanics and the film of the tape.

I cleaned up a year ago, after two or more years of being stored in its original box. It worked without a glitch. Old Sony batteries are truly amazing, I have a camcorder of yore and still holds full charge when I connected it to a TV to watch old videos.

I still have my MAVICA, it still works. I will hold it to see it it becomes a collectors item.
