Realities of actual mechanical televisions aside, for some reason this reminded me of a passage from Arthur C. Clarke’s Profiles of the Future and while I can’t find the specific passage, did find this summary:

Well, except I made a mistake. Fox owns the first movie in perpetuity - it wasn’t part of the sale to Disney, and they aren’t required to do anything with it they don’t want to do.
Fox financed the first film.
See above - the first film is owned by Fox until they decide to sell it. It's the other films that come up in 2020.

Removing garbage mattes and cleaning up blue screen fringing was fine and necessary, IMO. The additions were the problems.
Disney still does not own the distribution rights to the first movie.
