I actually played through the Star Wars: Galaxies MMORPG to top level as various character classes, and got bored enough that I explored the crafting abilities and built a character up to a high level artisan and it was a blast.
The poor quality of those three films in particular likely had some effect- many people still respond positively to smaller films that are actually good.
