Agreed.  She was in a class of of Bob Ross type, but she is doing great work (look at her friends painting - there is a significant difference in quality).  Let her try on her own and we’ll get more info.

You know, your note started off nice enough and then you took a hard left - please don’t try to tell me what I need to learn. I never said anything about “good or bad art” - I said I wouldn’t be able to produce something as good as the paining that North did - I meant she did a good job - it’s up to each person to

The dunning kruger effect runs wild in the art world.

There are several million reasons dollars why North has a better chance of becoming a successful artist than any other child her age.

I agree with this. Artistic talent runs in my family, I was born with it- but I work DAMN HARD to learn and develop the skills needed to use and express it. Went to art school, continue to do life drawing, always looking at building my technical ability. And I’m an Old.

Talent is great, but it doesn’t get you far

Well, that’s probably because you didn’t refine those motor skills at an early age, so it will be harder for you to pick up, but not impossible. Just like learning a new language. Having gone through 6 years of art school, I can guarantee you the kids that work hard to hone their skills get a lot further than the kids

It is hard to believe, but there are artists that young that talented have learned a couple of beginner techniques.

I would LOVE a bidet. I’ve been using hand-held shower heads for 20+ years and I don’t know how other people keep themselves clean. Like do they just let the water trickle down there and hope for the best??

It’s probably hard for me to wrap my head around it because I work with my hands. And as much as I love doing fun stuff with my nails, I can’t even paint them because of my work. You can easily carry groceries and hold a fork with them, but putting those spikes close to my most sensitive parts seems dangerous!

Oh I believe she is/can be one of them. She might not have the most raw talent, but she has enough privilege to make up for that.

Watching people attack a child over and over for the last 24 hours just because they disapprove of her mother (for mostly misogynistic reasons, but I digress) was. . . it was something.

I, also, made paintings like this as a kid . . . under the strict, step by step instruction of my mom. The goal wasn’t creativity, it

Live your best life: get a bidet or washlet attachment for your toilet, treat yourself to a mani-pedi.

Agree. Done step - by-step by a child who has probably been getting private art lessons for years, it's completely believable.

Pffft.

Oh no, not the Jez commentariat being shitty to a small child again simply because of who her mom is! Totally unexpected.

My grand daughter painted something similar in her art extension class when she was 8 years old (last year)... so yeah, I can accept it.

I kind of love Cardi B’s nails. But I always think that if I had nails like that, I would stab myself in the pussy every time I tried to use toilet paper.

It is hard to believe, but there are artists that young that talented. I am 52, and when I was in 4/5th grade there was a special class for gifted art students, and any one of them could have done the same quality of work at the same age as North.

So, I didn’t go to Provo Canyon. I went to a different school, which did not abuse children. Shut down Provo Canyon, certainly. That’s not the same as saying shut down residential treatment modalities.

Whew. My knee-jerk reaction to this is so, so torn. I also went to a school for “troubled teens” and I also was woken up in the middle of the night to be transported across the country (first to a wilderness program in Utah, then back across the country -slightly- more willingly to a boarding school). It saved my
