Same here!
Same here!
Jimi Izrael works on my last nerve! Her is always trying to come off as the "man's man." He has ruined the Barbershop segment of "Tell Me More" on so many occasions.
I really think casting Kim Kardashian was all part of Perry's diabolical plan to "cross over." There is no such thing as bad press, right?
The real problem is that we have entire church congregations led by their ministers and "bishops" (maybe they are getting kick backs?) co-signing Perry's fuckery by flocking to his movies. He screened this cinematic turd to a group of ATL evangelists who allegedly gave the movie a serious double thumbs up. TP isn't…
Word, girl, word.
I love this post and I am glad that Lindy had picked up on the various discussions about Harley's "seduction" of Judith. I felt like so many viewers refused to perceive that scene as date rape. Perry's subsequent portrayal of Judith as the clingy, needy woman sends a really "problematic" message — so what no means,…
The constant typing has massacred my once beautiful cursive writing. I hate when I have client meetings and have to take hand written notes — I purposely sit at an angle to hide my handwriting.
I agree about the importance of coherence, although I went to an Ivy for undergrad so maybe that prepared me all too well for law school ;-). That said, while I hand wrote my college exams (in cursive, natch) my alma mater now allows students to take their exams on laptops.
I went to law school between 2001 - 2004 and sat for the bar in 2004. I was one of the first groups sitting for the bar to take the test on laptops in my state, but now it is pretty much the norm.
SO. DAMN. FUNNY. What really amuses me is that a great deal of white people, especially those who live in the South, aren't even close to lily white. There are a ton of folks who think their lineage is as "pure" as the driven snow when in fact there have been quite a few strokes of the tar brush down the line. Skip…
The scary thing is that, more and more, no one writes exams anymore. I took all of my law school exams on my laptop and did the same for the bar exam.
See, I did suspect that the bangs were extensions blended in — if so, it is likely a fusion weave, there is just too much bounce for that to be a sewn in. I am always curious because her hair has body and bounce for days! I so want my hair to look like that but it just doesn't. To be frank, my hair is being a real…
While I part of me sort of suspects that Michelle relaxes her hair (my hairdresser swears she wears wigs), I think about how, when people see my hair they SWEAR I have all types of chemicals in my hair. A good blow dryer and a Marcel iron can lay some hair out.
AND this is why I hate Kinja sometimes...the above comment was intended to be reply to another thread. This is my cue to go back to work.
Just because he is coming from a "good place" doesn't in any way diminish the reality that he (a) comes from a place of privilege and (b) really must not hang out in the most diverse areas as there are large swaths of NYC where natural hair is the norm, not the exception. It is great to hear someone praise the Afro,…
I co-sign that! Where we need to make headway is in corporate America, the stuff I hear on any day is appalling. I get that a person needs to look neat and presentable, but there are many different ways to look neat and presentable that doesn't require pin straight hair.
Yeah, I have tried blowing out my own hair and it has been a DISASTER. I have bought all sorts of tools and my blow outs only last 1-2 days but take HOURS. If it weren't for the fact that my hair really needs to be washed every 3-4 days or it turns into a disgusting, smelly greaseball, I could stretch out my…
Trust me, it's not just the Howard kids. I love that so many women are embracing their natural textures, but some of the sanctimonious attitudes that come with it are just so off-putting.
Preach, girl! I have worn my hair natural for years and have been rocking a blow out the last 2. In my current climate, the curls just don't work — my hair also used to take FOREVER to air dry and in the winter it was an instant invitation for a head cold. Right now, my blow outs work for me. It's my preference…
First, how do we know that Michelle isn't natural? If for argument's sake she isn't, while I understand and respect the enormous symbolism of her going natural (and the resonance it would have in our community), but why would having natural hair contribute to anyone's awesomeness? I am AfAm and have been natural…
