Too far gone, imo. Not sure you can strip the Range Rover and end up with a rugged offroader anymore.

Insulated, sound-deadened, paint-matched hard top is available as part of a $3,000 package IIRC. Not exactly affordable, but probably still cheaper than the new Defender.
Doesn’t work that way. You’ve got to get your dealer to trade or you pay to ship a work truck from the agricultural backwoods to your location. It is a huge pain, and the manufacturers have made it that way on purpose.
This thing doesn’t even have power steering. How much more do you want them to strip out?
There were some rumors flying around that FCA was going to build a Wrangler Classic whenever the new Wrangler comes out, or possibly spin off a CJ sub-brand. No idea if those rumors have an ounce of truth, but supposedly the Jeep-faithful inside of FCA see the need for a vehicle you describe.
That’s all you’re ever going to see, if you don’t get into the woods. The Wrangler will never reveal itself in the city.
That’s nice. People can draw unicorns too. Doesn’t mean they exist. Unless you live in Kansas or Wyoming, out in the backwoods somewhere, you’ll struggle to ever find an affordable 4x4 variant.
Exactly. Not a penny saved building the V6 DOHC variant, and stripping the interior wouldn’t save much cash, either. Z51 Corvette can’t get much more affordable.
Yep. The consumer junk on dealership lots is simply not suitable for real work. You’ve either got to splurge on a stripped HD, which ain’t cheap, or you’ve got to buy fleet work trucks in the secondary market. Since those work trucks were not owned by the people who used them, the condition is always hit or miss :(
I have a 2018 Mercedes E-Class. It’s the bee’s knees.
They have a classic gauge setting that’s not shown in the gif. Regardless, I’m sure someone will create a theme in the aftermarket.
Jaguar is endeavoring to build a car that doesn’t even start when it’s brand new.
Mercedes like to put everything in italics for no particular reason
Meh
Customization is the one cool thing about digital dash.......but I have this strange feeling I’d just set it to look like old 1960s gauges.
Yep. Someday electric cars could take over. Today is not that day. Tomorrow doesn’t look good, either. But whenever they get around to solving the rapid-charge challenges and the weight issues, electric cars will probably take over.
Digital crash testing could be a boon to motorsport and the sports production car segment. The manufacturers built Evo variants in the 1990s and GTO’s in the 1960s because production car racing allowed fewer modifications. Therefore, the motorsport equipment was engineered into low volume production cars. Today, it’s…
It’s not worth imagining, atm, because batteries are not scalable enough. The lighter the chassis becomes the less efficient BEVs become as a propulsion method, since the electricity will be used mainly to move around the heft of the battery and motors. Nissan Leaf battery pack weighs 650lbs. Tesla P85d pack weighs…
