Well, we're talking about desktops. Text can be scaled independent of other visual elements such as video, photos, etc.

Realistically, 1x ~30" 4K monitor will provide a ton of workspace for the foreseeable future with significantly less neck swivelling and window dragging than a multi-monitor set-up, Evil Genius Cool though they may be.
