Diesels always inject the full volume of air into the cavity with each stroke, but they can run very lean air/fuel ratios, so the computer or mechanical pumps just meters out enough fuel to idle and then when you need more power, more fuel is injected and because there is no manifold vacuum (nothing to pull against)…
