If you only get a chance to read in short bursts could I recommend any of the John Brockman edited books (I think they go under the umbrella title of the Edge Series, though I am not sure about that) such as What Is Your Dangerous Idea?, What Are You Optimistic About?, What Should We Be Worried About?, etc.

I so needed this article a couple years ago. I don't even remember what I was writing, but knew there was a word for a holotype but I just could not think of it. Spent a stupid amount of time trying to figure it out too, but somehow I kept convincing myself that none of the words I was finding were right though Read more
