Honestly don't even notice them any more.
A block heater keeps your block warm enough that the car will start. A remote car starter allows the actual interior of the car to warm up. You don't have winter, do you?
Because it's -50 outside.
Remote start is also very common on cars with manual gearboxes. It's more expensive and requires more fiddling to disengage the clutch lockout but it is far from unusual.
Every clip I've seen of Top Gear Live just looks terrible, I'm not sure it's something that translates from television to live show well. Nitro Circus Live on the other hand is doing it right.
