On the 90% thing, keep in mind that the odds of a mortar being launched your way while you are there, is low. The odds that one that is launched will actually hit you is super low, and the odds that one that would hit you will instead be shot out of the sky is 90%. We're getting down to pretty slim odds here.

I enjoyed playing games that did take advantage of it, like time crisis (for point and shoot) and mario party for all kinds of stuff, but I agree there wasn't much interest. I think the thing that kept developers away was the lack of graphics power, which meant that it may never appeal to real gamers regardless.

So, you would be bothered by the fact that there is a piece of equipment that will reduce the chance of you getting hit with a mortar from less then one hundreth of a percent to zero? This is to remove a psychological threat, not a strategic one.

I think xband is a long range system and wouldn't help here since the system integrated into Iron Dome can detect projectiles from their launch point (remember they are only looking for short and medium range projectiles).

if you consider the economic impact to an area (could be billions in lost revenue from tourists, and millions in local commerce losses caused by air raids and building damage) it isn't that expensive.

i think the sensor/camera/other equipment (which was optomized for spying) has been removed, and will need to be replaced. Then these will be launched into space and give us way better optics then Hubble.
