A poisoned soul is the price of admission.

Me not can say much that not has already been said by others already and with better grammar. But Sean was heart and soul of this site for 12 years, and as many changes as AVC has weathered in past few years, this might be biggest loss. Me just have to remind self that me still able to read other bygone AVC writers on

Jesus. If only I had some kind of way to express how I feel about ... wait a minute! Something’s coming back to me! Something I used to enjoy!

Always glad when I see you pop up, Cookie, gives me hope for the future of the ‘club.

So many others dumped site because of tantrum about Kinja. They all migrated to the-avocado.org, which basically giant untethered comment section with occasional piece of pretty-good pop culture-related writing. Dikachu is in fact OK — he founded that site, and then took step back, but me follow him on Twitter, and

I’ve been hanging around this site for years. Was that the BEST use of my time? Dunno. But it provided an outlet for snarky jokes and pointed me towards some truly amazing shows and movies I never would have watched otherwise, helping me to steer clear of others that weren’t worthy. Like many other long-timers, I was

Great choice of the Chameleons album, but wrong song. “Swamp Thing” from Strange Times is their best track and one of the most achingly beautiful songs ever recorded. It still gets regular play at your local goff club and brings all the old goths to the dancefloor.

Got to hear John Totleben and Steve Bissette’s story about their part in the creation of the character during a panel at a con a few years back. Apparently the two, while sharing art duties on Swamp Thing had devised a game in which they would hide pictures in panels for the other to find, which became increasingly

Roger Ebert wrote a customarily great analysis of this movie for his “Great Movies” series:

Wow, these guys really know their scifi.

Thanks for your thoughts. It’s been comforting seeing so many people at other pubs talk about what an impact he had on them too.

A girl from Glasgow first turned me onto Frightened Rabbit in 2007 when I was living in the UK — right before they released an album called The Midnight Organ Fight. Nearly every major chapter of my life has been soundtracked by them since. For a kid that has always struggled with his faith and with his relationships,

There are some artists and records that we tend to refer to as our “favourites”, and others that we might call our “most influential” (particularly those of us who write music). However, there is another more personal and more vulnerable (and in some ways more pure) relationship with art that doesn’t always fit

Just wanted to say thanks for posting. I too have been an AVClub article and comment reader for years but almost never chime in myself, but I feel a similar need to express my sadness at this news and my love of this band, and of Scott’s songwriting in particular. I’ve followed them closely ever since Midnight Organ

I made a similar comment as you, though yours is more eloquently put. I’m only replying now to say that you’re not alone in pretty much every feeling you just expressed.

On the Christmas front, his song Boxing Night is utterly, utterly devastating, even more so now. This acoustic demo is better than the album version. I’d taken to posting it every Boxing Day just to bring the mood down. Now I’m just sad.

I just put a bunch of Frightened Rabbit stuff on shuffle because I couldn’t decide which album to listen to. And a ton of the songs have added weight now, but hearing him say “I’m dead now/check my chest and you’ll see/the life has been mined from me/burned for the heat” was sorta devastating.

This interview with a kid was so so sweet. He was such a sweet soul. It’s heartbreaking.

This was a band that meant a lot to me. I got to see them several times, always great. It was also a band that this site introduced to me, for which I’m forever grateful. His charm in discussing his Lemonheads cover years back will always stick with me, and that same charm carried through in all his performances.
