I used to occasionally drive a Toyota HiAce with a five on the tree as part of a job I had at an embassy in Zimbabwe. Except it had right hand drive and no power steering. Diplomatic lifestyle FTW!

Decades ago I had a job that sometimes involved driving a right hand drive HiAce van with a (left hand shifted) five on the tree transmission.  Oh, and no power steering. Took some getting used to. 

How hard could it have been for Smart or Dodge to offer a real manual transmission in these?  It would have made WAY more difference to the driving experience than MOAR POWAH. 

Wait. I thought the factory was collateral on the loan that gm gave Lordstown to...buy the factory. 

Not only does it have AWD, it has selectable and lockable AWD.

Just a normal car under there except for whatever it has in place of springs.

You would not believe the prices these get on Bring A Trailer.

If they powered it with hub motors, they could have the whole under-hood area, but that would be a phenomenally dangerous place to put batteries.

The Form factor of the Elio is uniquely unsuitable for electric power, as there is essentially no space for batteries. They basically need to start over from scratch.

Wouldn’t it be possible to take over a couple of the inbound lanes for outbound traffic? Or does it eventually narrow down to two lanes anyway?
