If you look at Tdi sales, the diesels VW sold were disproportionally a) manual, and b) wagons. Since GM wasn’t interested in selling either, a significant number of diesel fans returned the disinterest.

I agree with a lot of what you say, but Diesel is not hard to find. I’ve driven Diesels on and off since 1981, and finding fuel has been a issue for me.... once. Sometimes you have to wait for a gas car to unblock the only Diesel pump in the court though.
