Yes.
Wasn’t there a Jalop styory a year or so ago wherein a perfectly hot looking, modern, Corvett was totalled because of the issue you describe? I guess the point was yeah, you could maybe do something, but no one is going to warranty the work or insure the car afterwards.
Every time I read articles like this, I realize how many people don’t understand basic math.
I suspect that this was caused by Florida. Florida is irresponsible for so many Florida things that Florida has nothing to do with. So, this one, Florida.
This isn’t helping the conversation. Yes CEOs get paid way too much but the majority of that is stock options or company performance. It would be more beneficial to see their actual salary without bonuses to more accurately compare. For example, I work for PepsiCo. Our CEO “makes” over $25mil/year. Only $1.6 is his…
as long as the insurance isn’t doubling the cost...
Sounds like they had a bad day (and Hertz shouldn’t send out partially charged EVs any more than they should sent out cars with half filled gas tanks), but these folks don’t seem terribly bright.
The problem is that the bit went too far — all the way to the assembly line.
I like that they have more oddball and driver-quality cars than BaT or other auction sites. The flippers and dealer posts are dumb but easily avoided. I’ve generally been more interested in C&B for stuff I might actually want to buy, and BaT for ultra-rare stuff I didn’t know existed that I can look up on wikipedia…
With as shitty as they’re treating everyone other than the leadership ranks(both salaried and hourly), I hope UAW strikes for months and loses the companies billions. Layoffs every year for salaried folks is getting old and they need to be shown that treating employees like expendable trash will come back to bite them…
I was prepared to be angry but I’m not. Some asshole on a motorcycle blasting down a sidewalk toward pedestrians could have killed someone. I would have done the same thing, and felt morally justified doing so. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
I wonder if the truck is supposed to have those tolerances in Death Valley in summer or in Alaska in winter - I don’t think it can have both.
My company does manufacturing at micron scale, and the costs to achieve what he’s talking about on a mass-produced vehicle would be insane. Musk is nuts.
“All parts for this vehicle, whether internal or from suppliers, need to be designed and built to sub 10 micron accuracy.”
Judging from the pics so far - they probably should start with +/- 9mm tolerance.
Yes, Multimatic went nuts on this thing; but it’s not a homologation special. It does not meet any race sanctioning body’s requirements. In fact it’s pretty clearly stated that it would not in fact qualify for racing under the current rules.

This article didn’t really do the car much justice. Its a much bigger deal than you’re making it out to be.
“A 23 year old economy car has better frame engineering than this car.”
