People are too emotional on here and have never read an accident report in their lives. 2 million in an IRA or 401k will reasonably allow you to withdraw about $80K/yr - before taxes. Nice, but nothing extraordinary for a well established upper middle class older couple.

Ask a financial advisor how much you “need” and the answer will always be “more.” More saved = more fees in an AUM compensation arrangement.
