Oh yes yes yes. If GM said “Sorry, you bought the hardware, but not the software for the rearview mirror to work...or the auto AC....or bluetooth. But hey, its only $2,000 to reactivate those...can i have your card number please?”

There is no way to check that FSD option until you have it added to your account. You can only get it added to your account after you purchase the car. Calling or contacting Tesla is as effective as light escaping the middle of a black hole.
Ten years? Man, you had it good!
He said the feature went away after an update! Meaning he bought the car with the features and potentially used it without issues. They were taken away after he took the car in for an update!
It’s also true that if Alec was psychic, or had a friend who could see into the future, or someday invented a time machine to come back and warn himself, all of this could have been avoided! And yet, utterly irrelevant.
Honestly, I’m in your corner on this one David - I like the new grille better. The way it's packaged looks rather high end to my eyes.
Wasn’t the dealer that screwed the guy here.
So Tesla stole from the independent car dealer not the end user. And that is any more defensible?
A car get get Lemon Law returned, then it sits around for 6 months while they develop a new part, and after replacement the car is fine, and much cheaper than new.
For a company that is hoping to eliminate dealers altogether, this is an especially poor look on them. You want people to trust that you’ll look after them with their purchase, maybe don’t go and intentionally screw them over after they purchase.
It’s on the Mulrooney. It means it came with the car. End of story.
So at what point are you going to admit that Tesla fucked up. Regardless if the current owner checks to see if the features that were on the car when sold TO the dealer, Tesla is the one who just came in and essentially stole an item from someone. That someone was the dealer. The dealer then sold the car with the…
even better, if the seller had not stolen features from a sold car
Right, because a typical pre-purchase inspection includes confirming that features listed on the original window sticker haven’t been remotely removed from the car by the manufacturer, and any used car buyer who fails to have one of these mythical pre-existing feature inspections performed deserves what they get.
This is nothing new. I owned a few 80's GM cars where they removed features like the air conditioning, power windows, etc, 10 years after they were new. ;)
Is anyone really surprised that a for-profit corporation is exercising over-reach their access to sold goods? Over-The-Air updates have been considered a security and license risk since day-one, and there is little in the way of regulation to protect the consumers, at least at present.
Tesla wants to have the autopilot there to generate new vehicle sales. They know it’s a steaming pile of dangerous shit, so they yank it from a used vehicle.
I’m clearly in the minority, here. Everyone I’ve asked thinks the old one looks better, but I can’t base my headline on others’ opinions. I have to say what’s in my heart! And I think it looks significantly better! (Though I’m beginning to think I may need to get that checked out).
Both second and third rows retain Stow ’n Go.
