This. Its the same thing with the Evo 9 (at least in America), MK4 Supra, NSX. The follow up generations were never going to top the last models even if they are faster, more efficient, all because of the “legendary” status they built up.

They Built one it just had tracks

My neighbor went gonzo with modifications to a hawk eye STI and it only leaves the garage when he has to clean it. Another acquaintance did a flying Miata conversion and doesn’t even track it anymore.  

Once saw a guy demolish his brand new DD/Evo X at an HPDE event. Only 71 more payments and that pile of wrinkled parts was all his!
