Why do you assume that the best case scenario is that $2,500 would only buy another year? Of course there is a risk that other issues might arise, or that it’s totaled in an accident before then, but if $2,500 fixes all of the currently known issues I would think a year is comfortably in the middle range of possible

Yes. I think people get way too hung up on the book value of the car when deciding whether or not to make repairs or buy a newer car. IMHO, the most important factors in the decision were left out of the letter: whether the owner wants and can afford to buy a newer car. Even if $2,500 of repairs only get another year

It’s been a while since I read it, but I remember this as being a pretty forgettable King story, and not one that would lend itself to a movie adaptation. So in that sense I guess it’s a good thing that the adaptation is going to change up the source material considerably, but it makes me question why this story needs

Yeah. Without letting any teams off the hook for not signing them in the offseason, at this point almost any team would be foolish to sign Keuchel or especially Kimbrel, even at a below-market deal, and give up a good draft pick for what is almost certainly less than 1 WAR of production compared to signing them later

it seems they use it to delve into understanding of death more

Two things I hate about NFL schedule discussions.

Hmm...someone charged with two misdemeanors doesn’t want sexually explicit footage they never consented to made public.

In Vegas, I’ve benefited from people using Uber/Lyft because I can’t remember the last time I actually had to wait for a cab. There always seems to be a line of them waiting at every hotel.

If Taxis weren’t the absolute worst way to travel then Uber/Lift would never had a chance in the market.

I will be really interested to hear how this was allowed to happen. From general articles/comments I’ve been reading the last couple days, there’s a pretty sizable risk of fire whenever renovations are taking place, and obviously the combination of the materials involved and the importance of the cathedral would have

No, apparently you teach kids that going out to eat is a special occasion that requires paying nonstop attention to those at the table. That’s fine if that’s what you want for your kids. If I had kids, I wouldn’t agree that it always has to be that way (sometimes, sure).

I don’t know the details about the arrangement between the NBA and the WNBA, but the Seattle Storm have owners and I can guarantee those owners are not losing money, because they’d fold the team if they did.

Previous AAA research found that a majority of Americans (64 percent) do not regularly use their high beams. This means when driving at moderate speeds like 40 mph with low beams on, motorists will not have enough time to appropriately react to something or someone in the roadway.

I’m shocked that the Russian teams pay so much more than the WNBA. I wonder why that is.

Yeah, I think for obvious reasons WNBA pay will never approach NBA pay, but the fact that the faces of the league are making five figures is pretty sad. I thought about it and I made more than Stewart starting at age 29, and I’m not anywhere near the top of the world in my totally non-famous profession.

My argument isn’t about moral superiority, but utility. My donation might save an individual dog’s life. The cathedral will be rebuilt whether or not I donate.

I agree with you and I’m totally pro-book. I’m just saying that as a restaurant patron, I would never be upset that a kid at another table is staring at a screen.

I would argue that there’s just as much of a false dichotomy in “either individual people scrape together $25 here and $50 here, or an historic cathedral will never be rebuilt.” Especially when it’s the day after the fire and nearly half a billion dollars has already been raised.

I don’t think anyone is saying it shouldn’t be rebuilt. What many of us are questioning is why so many non-wealthy people feel an urgent desire to donate their own money when so many extremely wealthy people and organizations have already raised nine figures barely 24 hours after the disaster.

Two things about the Tiger vs diCaprio question. You can’t underestimate how much a bad back wrecks your life. I’ve had brief periods of back pain that made me totally miserable for days, and I’ve gone through a tiny fraction of what Tiger has. Now, I don’t know if diCaprio has any physical ailments, but assuming he
