As a diner, I think people who think a server is a salesperson are the worst.

As a customer, I assume that any suggestion my server makes is mandated by his or her corporate overlords so I don’t get upset or offended by it.
The idea that if you love the White Sox, you are required to despise the Cubs (and vice versa) is one of the most stupid things about Chicago.
Nothing about the Bears will ever change until the McCaskeys sell the team. Losing starts at the top.
In fairness, bringing back Terry for a few days was going to be a nostalgia fest no matter what. I was okay with that. What I’m not okay with is that they hired Dan McNeil back full-time to do a nostalgia fest for five hours a day. It’s downright painful when he starts telling a story that’s supposed to be a recent…
Sometimes my wife makes dinner and one of the items is, like, blatantly cold. (She’s an absolutely great cook other than that). I have wisely never opened my mouth about this, but I have noticed that it’s apparently passed down through the family because when her mom cooks, it is routine for something like mashed…
I thought something similar when Rizzo pitched for the Cubs in a 7-1 game. Yes, overcoming a 6 run deficit in the bottom of the ninth is exceedingly rare, but if any team could do it it’s the Cubs.
Maybe this has been explained elsewhere, but why was the dog in the custody of the trainer? When we were training our dog, we took him to a class every week and we were never separated from him. Was this trainer also a dogsitter or friend?
In fairness to Domino’s, at least their “we promise not to suck anymore” campaign was based on the idea that they had previously let the quality of their product slip, rather than being blatantly slimy and unethical.
It’s obviously never okay to throw food at people, and I also think that it’s generally not okay to be rude to low-paid service employees.
It’s not impossible, but I would think the risk of a punter having CTE is pretty low.
He was just trying to understand their customers better.
Absolutely. If NFL teams didn’t want garbage QBs on their rosters, then they wouldn’t continue to employ AJ McCarron, Nathan Peterman, Ryan Tannehill, Brock Osweiler, David Fales, Bryce Petty, Brian Hoyer, Joe Flacco, RG III, Matt Barkley, Drew Stanton, Brandon Weeden, Cody Kessler, Blaine Gabbert, Chad Henne, Matt…
I don’t see how any blanket statement about an entire race of people is not technically racist.
Yup, the local takes on Smith were bad enough when it was being reported that the new helmet rule was the cause. But I also still support him and agree with what you said.
The answer to the bike question largely depends on what kind of shape you’re in. Riding for 2 hours at an average 13 mph pace is something that is probably attainable for any able-bodied person with training (and would obviously be a cakewalk for a competitive cyclist). But if you’re not used to exercising for 2…
As a whole, quite possibly. (And if Heimlich’s crime had been physically assaulting an adult woman rather than sexually assaulting a child, I think it is highly probable that he’d have received more favorable coverage).
I think it’s a deliberate misread of Passan’s column to insinuate that he treated Heimlich more favorably than Osuna. In both cases he is consistent that it is not moral for a team to employ them.
It might seem like bad logic for a pro baseball team to willingly part with a top-tier starter for peanuts in the winter, only to suddenly play the win-now game by picking up a second-tier starter in the summer.
Couple of things. I do agree that societal attitudes have changed pretty rapidly. But when I went to high school around the turn of the century, it was common knowledge that it wasn’t “okay” to use that word. As in, even the people who did use it wouldn’t blurt it out in the middle of class or in front of authority…
