In Volition's defense, some cheats are in the DLC only that you can't get otherwise (total immunity to damage, inclusing melee, and infinite vehicle mass). You are correct however, in that it's distasteful, though it's been done in the past (Burnout Paradise, NFS Carbon).

As far as I can can tell, there's two apps in the Store that both are free, but require an external hardware purchase to work. There's no native bluetooth functionality (because I'm assuming the PS3 profile doesn't work that nicely with iOS).

It's a completely separate mode that is just unrelated missions for your non-Shepard character to complete with others that can tie into your progress in the main game, so no, there's no spoilers to be had.

Being that it's not a Steamworks title, and uses Gamespy for multiplayer, your best bet in that regard is to add it as a 3rd party game in steam.
