They don't necessarily have to be using exhaust gasses like in the article I saw... they could be using thermoresistive wires in their KERS system... so when that is charging or discharging, it heats the wires connecting the battery pack (which may be adjacent to or embedded in the thermoplastic).

I have a feeling it has more to do with the drivers. They're probably used to driving a BMW or Audi with an extra 2-3" of ground clearance and so they try to straddle road debris that actually hits and damages the Tesla.

Yeah, a broad, flat, under-bed battery pack would also give it a huge weight distribution advantage compared to ICE pickups... they could position the batteries for a low center of gravity (for a pickup) and 50/50 weight distribution. It will probably be the best-handling pickup ever made. And they'll be able to keep

And Teslas don't spontaneously combust like some others (cough, Ferrari, cough)... evey Tesla fire is a result of road debris damaging the battery pack... it's like hitting an animal with your car. I don't see Chevy recalling any cars because the hoods dent and windshields break when Chevy drivers hit deer.

These "Goodyears" have been designed to fail, apparently.

They're pretty empirically crap cars when you watch the crash test videos. YIKES!

Looks like a semi took the front end off or something. The Model S is super safe in crashes, as we've seen in the crash test videos. It would take something drastic to do that to the front end.

I think companies that look more like Tesla are the future of auto makers and behemoths like GM are going away soon. As the middle class disappears, leaving only upper class buyers AND as cars become more technology than mechanicals, you're going to have to rely on companies that can turn on a dime to change their

Except Google also just bought Waze, so they'll be alerted to traffic AND where things are moving the most freely, AND even potential impediments to traffic (before traffic even starts slowing).
