I was quite young when I saw Batman Returns, and Pfeiffer certainly had an impact on me as my first live-action Catwoman. But in terms of what I think the character should be, Hathaway is so much better. She’s got the biting wit, the arse-kicking ability, the sex appeal, and she’s actually a burglar.

I would have loved Hathaway to have her own standalone Catwoman movie, but I’m pretty sure the time for that is long gone. Funny thing, she’s obviously pretty, but somehow I had never noticed that Hathaway is smoking hot until TDKR.

She does to the extent that she didn't fully comprehend the human cost of siding with Bane's agenda of usurping the rich ("This was someone's home...). Something that seemed "fun" to her became not-so when the reality of the situation finally came to pass, hence her change of heart.

As someone who's never been a fan of the Returns portrayal, this was the performance I was waiting for.  THERE is my conflicted classy cat burglar I've known and loved from the comics

IMO, Black Widow really got turned around in Captain America 2.

Agreed. I also really like the moment during the big battle when Hawkeye shoots an arrow at Loki’s eye (as he specifically promised to do), we follow it with an implausible zoom lens, Loki somehow catches it at the last moment and flashes a shit-eating grin, and then it explodes because Hawkeye wasn’t taking any

Agreed. IMO, Hathaway was the best part of that movie, and that’s coming from somebody who cringed when they found out she got the role.

Incredible: X-Men 2, Logan

Huge second. Every minute Catwoman wasn’t onscreen I was saying “where’s Catwoman?” Hathaway did excellent work there.

Say what you like about the X-Men film universe, it does accurately get across the batshit insanity that is comic book continuity.

I thought I was the only one! I didn’t fall asleep, but I thought it was a poorly plotted movie with a terrible villain. I even re-watched it just to make sure. Like the reviewer, though, I did enjoy Captain America. He’s been the best part of the Marvel movies, in my opinion.

eh. it came across as stalkerish and a little too twee. Not to mention that ASM Peter is kind of a dick. Your dad died asking me to promise to stay out of your life but I want to bang you so...

As I’ve noted numerous times, it took me at least 6 months to get through it, most instances I fell asleep before the scenes with Sam Jackson and the girl from HIMYM were over(the fact I can’t remember their character names speaks volumes of how little these movies affected me) . It’s really one of the most overhyped

Good to see Manimal survived the Kinjapocalypse.

Yeah, that X-Men comment is far too harsh. There have been, what, 9 movies? 11 if you count Deadpool (and I guess you have to if you’re talking “cinematic universes”). And maybe three were bad, the rest were pretty good and a couple were great. Outside Marvel, that’s a better track record than most efforts.

Yeah. I mean why didn’t Hulk just punch Loki through 20 buildings without care for the lesser mortals and then kiss Black Widow on top of what is most likely a mass grave of innocent people

Gonna be hard to spin Superman rampaging through fake-New York as justified though. I mean I’ve seen the argument for it but its wrong and more to the point it’s not what Superman would have done. Plenty of superheroes would fight Zod in that city and deaths would happen and it would be justified as “for the greater

Look, I get your point with this paragraph, but I’m not sure that “shitty” is the right term to use for the X-Men series, many of the installments of which you have lauded in this column.

I loved this when it came out but rewatching it years later, you can definitely see all the little cracks and problems more clearly. For example, Stark is a huge asshole. Like, not the kind of smarmy he was in his previous films, but downright mean at times to the point it makes little sense beyond getting to the

The one thing ASM had going for it was the chemistry between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.
