    Oh man. Napoleon is my favorite silent film; I got to write program notes for a screening at Dartmouth college several years ago. The pendulum camera is such a brilliant, zany effect!

    Fun bit about Wilfrid Brambell: a running joke on Sanford and Son was to call his character a "dirty old man," which is why in Hard Day's Night they keep talking about how clean he is.

    "Have mercy on us, because we are small and frightened and our arms are still in their sockets."

    I'm hoping this means that the entire film will be centered on a game of chess with Death.
