You misspelled “Congress”. Building what they did, while I would agree could had led to something better, Congress is the final arbiter on what gets spent, and where it gets spent. That’s why pretty much every successor never got built—Congress pulled the plug before pretty much every manned system since the shuttle 

The military didn’t “wise up”...in the wake of the Challenger disaster, many of the things the military wanted to use the shuttle for were prohibited.

I see her point, and have done so myself. Back when I was 19, I bought a 1964 Galaxie500XL from the original, 84-year-old owner. Had 39,000 miles on it, and was original everything. Several people argued I shouldn’t drive it—it would be valuable one day. I wasn’t in a financial position to have something to just look
