My neighbor had this when I was a kid:
Im about 40, during my entire childhood American cars were absolute shit. The coolest land yachts during my childhood weren’t American, they were foreign. The 7 series was probably king, to me anyway, during the early-mid 90s. But the car I wanted...
Im gonna go with one of the land yachts before land yachts were cool, the 56-57 Lincoln Mark II.
1978 Lincoln.
If they’d only listened to Syd Mead...
My first car was an ‘87 Fleetwood Brougham. Me and my high school buddies could fit 4 wide in both rows of seats. Stupid idea? Oh heck yeah. But it was so big, I only could park it in the back of the high school parking lot because I couldn’t maneuver through the tight aisles. Sure the radio and cassette player didn’t…
Beg your pardon? This is my car:
There’s only one answer if we’re including concepts
It doesn’t look like it has the Fleetwood grille or wheels.

My grandparents had a ‘77 Lincoln Town Car and and Mark V, and I’d have to say - especially the Town Car - were as close to a perfect land yacht you could find. Each seat felt like an oversized Barcalounger, far more comfortable than the perhaps more handsome luxury cruisers a decade earlier. The button-tufted…
I nominate the Pontiac Grand Ville, but only because it’s so awesome to see a massive boat like that being driven by Bill Hickman in the badass chase scene in the Seven-Ups!
Before....

I’ve often thought about this question. For my part, it’s the 1969 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. Admittedly, Fleetwood is most often thought of as a limo, but if you exclude the more limotastic versions of the series 60 and 75, what you get is a long, plush sedan with a famously cloudlike ride.
My favorite later model land yacht is the 77-78 Lincoln Continental Town Coupe with the optional glass roof:
Yes, if you’re gonna choose the “greatest” land yacht, it needs to be a boat that was actually built. The old man had a ‘70 Chrysler Newport:
Back in the 80s my dad had a ‘76 Olds 98 Regency sedan. Blue with a light blue velour interior, lame 455 and marshmallows for springs. Awesome road trip car though.
My offering sits at the intersection of old school and modern. They don’t have the style of the 1970s land yachts and they don’t have the latest gadgets of the modern luxury sedan but they combine the best aspects of old and new:
1958 Olds Delta 88, get the fuck back.
