Driver culpability definitely contributed to the crash, but Tesla has yet to explain why their system did not ask for a hand touch for the last 4 minutes, which it should have, as noted in the article.
There is nothing wrong with the technology:
When Tesla promises both that the current car has autopilot and that all hardware is present for full level 5 automity, they actually obscure what it does now for those that only hear the advertising. You have to become smart enough to know the difference (and few even here know the difference of 3, 4, and 5).
